Welcome to our Latest News page - a place for you to see how we are learning and living 'Life in all its Fullness' at St. Peter’s Church of England Junior School.
This week, our keyworker children have been learning about the history of our beautiful school. They have enjoyed the opportunity to sketch outside and we hope you enjoy their charcoal pictures. Our special school could be your special school too – we have spaces available next academic year.
The sun is shining and we have the most beautiful views at St. Peter’s Church of England Junior School as we greet the children at the gate each morning and say goodbye in the afternoon.
After several rounds of presentations, our Year 6 children have voted to support the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) for their annual Charity Day. They have worked especially hard to think of fun, albeit remote ways to involve all our children in their mission to raise some money.
This week marks ‘water safety’ week and, with the aim of ‘Bringing the magic of our waterways to you’, the Canal and Water Trust have a wide range of fun and fantastic home learning activities available, including on line games, well-being ideas and design/engineering activities: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/explorers/learning-from-home
Introducing ‘The Happy News’, a newspaper founded by Emily Coxhead, designed to share positive news and ‘celebrate all that’s good in the world’. In their mission to bring ‘happy news’ into schools, a free resource pack is available for children to complete and colour, along with some happy facts for them to enjoy. We have included some extracts below and encourage you to download the pack in full! It will bring immediate sunshine! https://thehappynewspaper.com/
This afternoon, we joined together as a school community via zoom for an assembly themed around our Value of Celebration. You all have so much to celebrate and here are just a few ‘celebration of home learning photos’.
Today marks Empathy Day, founded in 2017 by Empathy Lab. The day focuses on using books to step into someone else’s shoes. Scientists say that we can train our brain with stories – the more you empathise with characters, the more you understand other people’s feelings. Visit @Empathy Lab for online events running throughout the day and fun home-based activities to help children read, connect and act using empathy.
This week has marked Volunteer Week – a great time for us to be thinking about our Value of Service. Over the past two days, our Year 6 children have been researching a chosen charity and they’ve started to think of community fundraising ideas as part of their annual Year 6 Charity Day. Just one of the ideas includes a zoom fancy dress party! We warmly welcome our children to reflect on and share their ‘Acts of Service’ at home or in the wider community.
Even the local cat joined us to welcome back the children! Our Year 6 children have really impressed us with their maturity for social distancing and both pupil and parent feedback demonstrates how happy their return to school has been. Thank you for the lovely feedback received so far. “It was a brilliant day according to my Year 6. Thank you all so much for all the preparation and thoughtfulness that has gone into their return”. “Thank you to the staff for going to such lengths to keep our children safe and happy”.
Look at our beautiful poppies! ‘Like wildflowers, you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would’. A lovely quote for us to hold onto during this time and we are especially proud of the wide range of skills our children are growing at home.
