Welcome to the second half of the spring term and a new series of ‘life in all fullness’ adventures! Each year group has an exciting curriculum project in store for them, as you can see from our classroom displays. For further information, please visit the ‘curriculum projects’ page of our website.
We were lucky to have a visit from author, M. P. Robertson today. He gave an immersive assembly to the whole school to start the day, before each year group took part in a workshop learning how to draw a dragon! The children impressed us with the artwork they created.
Over the last few days, the library project has continued at Jenoi Primary School - creating an engaging environment for reading and learning.
In partnership with the school’s librarian, Mrs Carr, Miss Reece and the team from Kaira Konko decorated the library with trees, birds and plants of The Gambia - bringing the outside in. The books, including new donations, have been organised and presented to enhance children’s weekly use of this renovated space.
Over the past few days, the desk repair project has continued at Soma Lower Basic School in The Gambia. This work has also been supported by a local carpenter.
Goal 4 ‘Quality Education’ of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The desk repair project will support this goal, enabling children to learn and study at a safe and stable table.
Today, Mrs Carr and Miss Reece visited three rural schools, delivering school lunch supplies and classroom resources. Each school in need of much support, due to their isolated location. A joyful welcome awaited the team at all three schools, including drumming, singing and dancing.
Each school had been without food for many weeks. Situated faraway, into the bush, there had been no other alternative for children to eat at lunchtime - meaning a long walk home during their lunch break. The donation of food will make a huge difference in supporting both teaching and learning, alongside the global goal of zero hunger.
Our Church school vision is ‘life in all its fullness’ for all members of our local and global community. Ahead of our visit to Africa, every child wrote a prayer for the people of The Gambia, and beyond. Their thoughtful prayers were illustrated with a tree; a symbol of life in all its fullness.
This morning, the children of Jenoi Primary School welcomed the prayer postcards, creating their own version for the children back at St. Peter’s. They demonstrated the most beautiful care, appreciating the opportunity to draw and colour. Peace and partnership filled the classrooms.
Mrs Carr and Miss Reece received a wonderful welcome from the children at Jenoi Primary School this morning. Songs of welcome and togetherness, sang in the local language of Mandinka. The Head Girl read a speech, which included the following words.
“Thank you for touching our hearts with your kindness. They add a spark of joy to the lives they touch and leave a lasting impression on us forever”.
The feeling is reciprocal. Following this speech, alongside the singing and dancing, the UK team were gifted with a bowl of rice and vegetables as a thank you from the whole community.
Today, Mrs Carr and Miss Reece started a library renovation project at Jenoi School. They also helped with desk repairs at Soma School. Thank you for the donation of books.
Today, Mrs Carr and Miss Reece visited Kaiaf Health Centre, which serves the Lower River Region of The Gambia. Over the week, they will help to assemble and distribute maternity kits, in support of this important community project,
